Really cool! Neat site too! My guess is that as it says sound it has a sound chip being fed into the gameboy… if thats true this could lead to some really neat developments, nitro needs to take a look at this!

  2. I do believe the speaker and On/Off switch are linked to the ROM, Battery and possibly Real-Time Clock and it lets you know when your pet needs something =)

The 5th sound channel has only been implemented fully in nanoloop, No commercial gameboy game used it.

Keaton: I think the explanation is much simpler, unfortunately. See the two small holes plastic north east of the switch? Go figure…
I’d be more interested in analyzing the memory bank controller in this thing. What I’ve heard it’s pretty non-standard.

RR: There’s one demo that used the 5th channel to play samples by misusing the voltage bias present on the VIN pin on most flash cartridges. I also believe PocketVoice used the channel as an actual audio input. Granted, neither of those are officially licensed.

While I can’t seem to find the article anymore, I know a little about this cart. The sound feature is, indeed, based on a small internal sound generator. It’s purpose is to allow you to stay updated on the needs of your pet even while your game boy is off. As far as I know, this cart does not use the fifth sound channel and reasonably speaking I can’t imagine it would.

However, the battery and rom structure would be interesting to look at. Certainly a really cool fnd.
