Someone figured out how to make something useful out of a gameboy. How bout that?

I saw a website about this a few years ago and it sounded too cool to pass up. And it was. Although I since bought a PC based Oscope that is more powerful and practical, the GBDSO is nonetheless useful and if nothing else has an extremely high coolness factor. If I can’t do anything else with it, I can show it at my kids’ science fairs and get accolades.

It is a 2 channel scope and works pretty good. The probe connectors are a bit rickety and I’m constantly afraid I’ll break them off or mess up the board similarly. Using the standard GB button interface to get what you need is a bit funny, but he did a great job with the firmware making it menu based. The only thing funny about mine is some ghosting of the image that happens after a while in operation. A reset clears it up, but it always comes back. Still, a really neat project.

As you can see, the board is sized to fit inside a standard cartridge. I bought a game from my 7 year old son Sam for $3 that he didn’t use anymore, and put this board into it. Sam has supplied many toys with which he no longer has interest to my robotics projects. At a reasonable price of course.

The shot on the right shows the 2 DC jack inputs where you connect probes. You’ll have to make a small adapter to go from BNC (most probes have this connector anyway) to the DC jack.

GAMEBOY OSCILLOSCOPE

Seems like a stupid tutorial (i know), but I got about 3 emails asking me about how to download the GAME BOY camera pictures in MAC or PC without strange lines across the files or without communication issues between the old EMS transfer-er and your GAME BOY camera cartridge. Well first TIP, put in the trash your EMS transfer-er hahaha, (just kidding) , but for me was really quick, easy & professional the fact about download my pictures from my camera using the Bleep Bloop USB cartridge programmer.

Just follow this steps:

1. Put your gameboy camera inside the USB programmer & connect the USB programmer cable in one of your USB ports (Mac or PC).

2. If you are a mac user, just open your PARALLELS Desktop application (I use Win XP vesion).

3. Open the Bleep Bloop software application (the same app you use to back-up your LSDJ song files) and confirm that your GAME BOY camera is detected/connected.

4. Now you just need to download and safe your camera .SAV file.

5. Download the application called GBCameraDump and install the application in your Mac or PC computer.

6. Now, the fun a best part of the entire process… just open your .SAV file with the GBCameraDump software and you will see your pictures set in a kind of grid. At this point you can choose to safe the pictures one by one as a .BMP file format, or safe the entire collection in one shot .

NOTE: If you want to delete the old pictures inside your GAME BOY camera just do this command: Pressing START+SELECT while the gameboy is turing on to delete all pics .

GAME BOY camera ready!

Are you tired about the look and feel of your GREY nanoloop cartridge?, even if it’s Nanoloop, 1.2, 1.3 or 1.5? you have a cool Pokemon yellow cartridge in your house and you want to make the change by yourself ?… GREAT, you just need a CUTTER, KNIFE or X-ACTO, also a 3.8mm Security Bit to open your GAME cart ( but remember in Nanoloop you will use a regular small screwdriver to open it) and that’s all !!!. In this quick tutorial a will show you what I do it to fit the Nanoloop board inside one of my white tamagotchi game cartridge. I don’t know WHY? but the HOLE of the NANOLOOP PCB board it’s a little bit different than the regular PCB board games, so just follow the pictures and you will catch the TRICK, it’s really easy to do it .
